Public records and email are the latest point of contention between Findlay administrators and city Auditor Jim Staschiak. The Courier reports city administrators downloaded emails from the auditor’s office without contacting Staschiak.

Law Director Don Rasmussen asked Mayor Lydia Mihalik to get the Computer Services Department to help get the emails. They pertained to communication between Staschiak and Paul Rutter of Columbus-based Bricker and Eckler. The law firm serves as the city’s bond counsel. Rasmussen says that Staschiak has been communicating with a different attorney than the city has been. He adds information from the two lawyers has conflicted.

Staschiak says administrators could have asked for the emails. He’s calling for a review of public records policy. An informal meeting on the subject will be held at 4:40 p.m. in council chambers.

Some emails from deputy auditor Ginger Sampson were also collected.
