City of Findlay administrators are considering rewriting the rule for how they collect business income taxes.
At last night’s mid-year review, city auditor Jim Staschiak said administrators have the option to not accept payments until October. Staschiak said he knows no reason to defer these payments.

Staschiak said he understands the need for such an option in the past, but with the financial situation the city is in now, with more than a $9 million dollar balance in the general fund and over $1 million in a rainy day fund, it’s time to correct that practice.
With five months left in the current budget, administrators are also considering some longer term budget options.
Staschiak said the city is on track financially now, but risks falling behind if long-term budget planning isn’t utilized.

Staschiak said the lack of a plan is a “outstanding weakness” for the city.
