Nonprofit Organizations Get Break On Landfill Fees Related To Demolition Work

The Hancock County Commissioners are cutting a nonprofit organization a break on landfill fees. The City Mission is working on a demolition project and requested a fee of $10 per ton instead of the normal $26 for demolition debris. The commissioners granted the request.

Commissioner Mark Gazarek says they typically give the break to nonprofit organizations. For example, the county will charge organizers of the upcoming Backyard Mission trip the same rate for debris.

The county can only wave the local fees. There are federal fees from the EPA for demolition debris that can not be waived.
