Cody Johnson’s New ‘Leather Deluxe’ Features Carrie Underwood Duet And Song That Made Him Cry
On Friday (November 1), Cody Johnson released Leather Deluxe, the expanded edition of his 2023 album that features 13 new tracks in addition to the original record’s 12 tunes. His hit collaboration with Carrie Underwood, “I’m Gonna Love You,” is the new collection’s lead single, and it has justifiably received most of the attention surrounding the release. But there’s another new song included in Leather Deluxe that has a big place in Johnson’s heart. The 37-year-old country star wrote “C’mon Cowgirl” for his two daughters, Clara Mae, 9, and Cori, 7, along with his wife of 16 years, Brandi. Johnson recalls playing the song for his girls for the first time, and getting emotional as he tried to get through the song. “And I’m reading the lyrics, and I’ve got tears just pouring down my cheeks,” Johnson recalls. “And I look up and they’re all crying and smiling at me. How do you not cut that song?” (People)
