Garth Brooks opened his Stadium Tour 2020 in the same city where he played his first ever show as a recording artist: Detroit!
We teamed up with our friends at LaRiche Chevrolet Cadilliac to send a lucky winner to see the show, but they had to earn it. Hundreds of entries came in when we asked people to write us note to tell us about someone they wanted to send to the show. We got entries from people nominating their parents, people nominating friends that are dealing with all sorts of issues, and we even got an entry from a guy nominating his ex-wife because he thought she’d enjoy it. One entry got the most votes though, and it was this one, written by Darla Shepherd in honor of her friend, Jason Gillifillan:
Jason goes above and beyond to help people. He always thinks of others before himself. I am going through a divorce after 34 years of marriage and am totally lost in what to do. He is always there to lend a hand whenever I need it, whether that means helping with construction things that need done, helping to move me into my new house, or whatever else might need done. He is a firefighter in the town of Arlington and is one of the first to respond to calls which means it takes him away from his children’s sporting events a lot of the time.
I don’t have a way to repay him in a way like he should be, but I know he has always wanted to see Garth and I would love to be able to send he and his wife Alisha to go see him.
Thank you for your consideration of sending them to this awesome opportunity of a parents’ night out!!!!
Well, it paid off, because we showed up on Saturday afternoon at the Gillfillan’s home in Arlington, and headed up to the show!
Despite a quick “dark alley detour” after we finally parked, it was an incredible night with Jason and his wife, Alisha.
Here’s a little piece of the fun:
