Sibling rivalry! GQ Magazine put Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae and Sarah Silverman on their June cover, with a few extra limbs. The magazine, of course, was poking fun at sister pub Vanity Fair, which accidentally gave Oprah Winfrey and Reese Witherspoon an extra hand and leg on its annual Oscar issue cover in January.
GQ even issued a faux-apology for their “error” writing: “Our intention was to celebrate the three super-funny superstars, who are all that is smart and perceptive and riotous and necessary in comedy right now. We deeply regret that the results violated GQ‘s rigorous standards of editorial excellence and the laws of nature.”
- Not everyone is amused though. Conde Nast (the parent company of both GQ and Vanity Fair) insiders claim exes are “furious” because they had no advance warning of the spoof.
- Spilled an insider: “Jim Nelson, the editor-in-chief at GQ, never told Vanity Fair editor-in-chief Radhika Jones, or anyone else at VF, that he was planning this. They are being mocked by a sister publication, nobody told them in advance, and they found out about it at the same time as everyone else, when the GQ cover was released.”
