Without a doubt, this has been one of the fastest years of my life. It doesn’t seem that long ago that I was sitting in a room with Big Dave, hoping he would take a chance and hire me as his new on-air personality for 100.5 WKXA. After a few weeks of meetings and an audition, I received the call that changed my life. He officially offered me the position, and I couldn’t have been happier. Once the initial excitement wore off, I suddenly became extremely anxious. Can I actually do this? What if the listeners hate me and my career in radio is over? I just had to convince myself that I would never know the answers to those questions unless I took the wonderful opportunity that was presented to me.
It’s been one year since my first day on-air, and I still ask myself those questions every single day. It’s those questions, however, that let me know that I love what I do, and that my whole purpose for being on-air is to make YOU happy. To keep you entertained and informed about Country music and life in general is my number one goal when I’m talking to you through your radio speakers.
Throughout this year, I’ve met so many wonderful listeners who listen to us at work, during their commute, or stream us online when they’re home. To realize that someone is actually paying attention to what I say is something I don’t know if I’ll ever get used to. It also keeps me on my toes about what I talk about on-air. Even though weekday afternoons from 3:00-7:00 pm is my time to be on-air, it’s still your time to listen to our station, so more than anything, I want to talk about what YOU want to listen to, not what I want to hear myself say.
Thank you so much to each and every listener that has supported me and welcomed me with open arms. I can’t begin to describe how much it means to me. I will be forever grateful to you. Even to the people that aren’t my biggest fans, I owe you a thank you, as well, because you let me know what I can improve on (except for one guy that wished I was blonde…sorry, I can’t pull that off).
Being here, talking to you on-air is my dream, and I’ll continue to live it out until Big Dave realizes what a weirdo I am and releases me back into the wild. Until then, thanks again, and I’ll talk to you soon!
