Hancock Public Health Annual Report
(From Health Commissioner Lindsay Summit)
Dear Community Members,
As we reflect on 2025, this year has brought both challenges and achievements. Our agency faced significant fiscal constraints, requiring careful stewardship of resources and innovative solutions to maintain the quality of services our community depends on. In March, we experienced a sudden loss of more than $213,000 in grant funding, a stark reminder of how quickly financial resources can change. This reinforced the need to remain agile and prepared to adapt in an ever-changing financial landscape. To address these challenges, we implemented six furlough days between July and December – a difficult but necessary measure that allowed us to manage financial pressures while preserving essential public health services. These experiences have strengthened our commitment to building greater financial resilience and ensuring that, even in times of uncertainty, we continue to serve our community with excellence and integrity.
This year also marks the conclusion of the 2023-2025 Community Health Assessment (CHA), a process that has provided invaluable insights into the health needs and priorities of our community. Building on this foundation, we are excited to launch the 2026-2028 Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP), which will guide our efforts to address identified priorities and advance public health in the coming years.
I want to recognize the extraordinary dedication of our team as they have worked diligently to prepare for reaccreditation in 2026. The Accreditation Team has invested more than 600 hours collecting and organizing the 120 required documents. This is a testament to the staff’s commitment to excellence and continuous improvement.
Sincerely,
Lindsay Summit, MPH
Health Commissioner
