Bids Received For Flood Mitigation Projects

(From Steve Wilson, Project Manager, Maumee Watershed Conservancy District, to Findlay City Council)

Bids were received on June 30 for the Eagle Creek Flood Basin and the Additional Hydraulic Improvements.

The 3 low bidders for each project are as follows: Eagle Creek Flood Basin – Engineer’s estimate $ 42,376,000 • Miller Brothers Const $ 32,075,000 • Beaver Excavating • RD Jones Excavating 33,107,304 36,591,992

Additional Hydraulic Improvements – Engineer’s estimate $ 6,170,000 • Helms & Sons $ 3,699,040 • Eagle Bridge • Fenson 3,912,345 3,989,515

The bids are being evaluated by the Maumee Watershed Conservancy District and Stantec.

The next step will be to recommend award of contracts to the MWCD Board of Directors for consideration at their Board meeting on July 14.

There is $20,000,000 remaining in the State of Ohio grant for Eagle Creek.

Those funds combined with the FEMA grant of $24,000,000 will provide sufficient funds to execute both contracts.

Based upon conversations with Ohio EMA, the costs for the Additional Hydraulic Improvements will be completely eligible for the use of FEMA funds.

One other project will be able to use the FEMA grant funds, that being the benching beneath the Norfolk Southern railroad bridge.

That project will not be bid until the NS bridge construction is nearly complete.

The estimated cost for the NS benching is $2,000,000.

The bid date for the NS bridge project has been extended to July 14 at NS headquarters in Atlanta.

We will update all of you on that bid as soon as we receive the results from NS.

Thanks for your continued support of flood mitigation efforts in Hancock County and the City of Findlay.

Respectfully Submitted,
