Bernard Hill Of ‘Titanic’ & ‘Lord Of The Rings’ Star Dead At 79

Bernard Hill, best known for his roles as Captain Smith in Titanic and King Théoden in The Lord Of The Rings trilogy, has died at the age of 79. His agency confirmed the news, but no additional details, including the cause of death, have been released. Hill had been scheduled to attend Comic Con Liverpool alongside other members of the Lord Of The Rings franchise, but his appearance was cancelled at the last minute.

Hill’s co-star in the trilogy, Dominic Monaghan, paid tribute to him on Instagram. “The Broken king has passed to the grey havens but he will always be remembered,” he wrote next to a photo. The veteran actor’s final role is in the current season two of BBC’s The Responder.
