Deadline Looming For Group Seeking To Abolish Property Taxes

(ONN) – As the Ax Ohio Tax group works to collect enough signatures to put the matter on the November ballot, a critical deadline looms.

The Ohio Capital Journal reports the Ax Ohio Tax campaign has until July 1st to decide whether to submit signatures for this year’s ballot or wait for a future election.

The group needs more than 413,000 signatures to get on the ballot, but leaders say they want about 620,000 to feel safe from rejections.

Supporters argue property taxes are driving up costs and pushing homeowners out, while critics warn eliminating property taxes would cut critical funding for schools and public safety.
