GOP Wants Statewide Vote On Voter Photo ID That State Law Already Requires

(ONN) – Ohio Republican lawmakers are trying to fast track a photo ID voting requirement to become a constitutional amendment with a November referendum.

Ohio Republican leaders are pushing to put voter photo ID requirements into the state constitution instead of it just being a law.

A state law passed in 2023 requires Ohioans to present a current photo ID to vote.

Lawmakers introduced a joint resolution that would let voters decide the issue on the November ballot.

Democrats and voting rights advocates say they’re concerned the amendment could lead to additional voting restrictions in the future.

Republicans argue the change would help protect election security and increase confidence in the voting process.
