Man Arrested After Leading Deputies On Pursuit
(From the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office)
On April 2, 2026, a Hardin County Sheriff’s Deputy was on routine patrol when they observed a Chevrolet SUV traveling at a high rate of speed on a rural county road. The Deputy, after confirming the speed, turned to initiate a traffic stop.
The suspect vehicle attempted to elude the Deputy by turning into a driveway in the 18000 block of County Road 146, continuing down a farm lane and eventually driving into a large open field. Despite continued signals from the Deputy to stop, the vehicle remained in motion until a second Deputy arrived on the scene. Working in coordination, the Deputies successfully blocked both points of exit from the field, containing the vehicle.
The suspect—later identified as Daniel Murphy—exited the SUV while brandishing a handgun. Mr. Murphy then re-entered his vehicle and placed a call to 911. Hardin County Dispatchers maintained communication with Mr. Murphy, eventually convincing him to discard the weapon and surrender. Mr. Murphy exited the vehicle with his hands up and was taken into custody without further incident. Upon recovery of the discarded weapon, it was determined to be an airsoft pistol.
A subsequent search of the vehicle and scene led to the discovery of drug paraphernalia and a suspected controlled substance.
Mr. Murphy was transported to the Multi County Jail where he is held pending arraignment. He faces numerous traffic violations and criminal charges.
The incident remains under investigation by the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office.
