New Ohio Bill Would Provide Paid Time Off For Major Life Events
(ONN) – Two Ohio lawmakers are backing new legislation that would give millions of Ohio workers access to paid time off for major life events, including caring for a newborn or aging parent.
Senate Bill 396 was introduced by State Senators Beth Liston, a Democrat from Dublin, and a Republican, Lewis Blessing, from Colerain Township.
Under their proposal, eligible workers will be paid up to 14 weeks of paid leave in a 12-month period.
It allows up to 18 weeks in what the bill calls rare cases, where a second qualifying event occurs in the same year.
Under the bill, it would be funded by employees who would play a payroll contribution of 0.4 percent.
