Ohio Experiencing Surge In Cases Of Lyme Disease
(ONN) – Tick bite emergency room visits are surging in parts of Ohio, prompting a federal warning.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued an official warning about tick bites this year.
Ohio has seen an explosion of Lyme Disease cases jumping from 40 cases in 2010 to over 2,800 cases annually.
Belmont, Jefferson, Licking and Muskingum Counties have logged the highest numbers.
The warning also includes parts of West Virginia and Kentucky.
A two-week course of antibiotics can usually abate the symptoms.
Left untreated, it could lead to serious long-term health issues and can even be fatal.
Repellant, protective clothing and showers are recommended.
