Ohio Lawmaker Seeking To Suspend State Gas Tax

(ONN) – An Ohio lawmaker wants to suspend the state’s gas tax in an effort to give relief to Ohio drivers.

Republican Representative Ty Mathews, of Findlay, is proposing a three-month moratorium on Ohio’s gas tax.

The current tax is 38.5 cents per gallon.

A similar proposal is being discussed at the federal level which would remove another 18.4 cents from the price.

Regular unleaded in Ohio is at an average of $4.83 per gallon with prices nearing $6 per gallon expected if the war in Iran continues.

Governor DeWine has expressed concerns about a budget shortfall if this is enacted.

Mathews’ goal is for this to be enacted by the end of May.
