Sheriff’s Offices Warning Of Scam
(From The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office)
The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office wants to warn residents about a phishing scam that is designed to steal your financial information. The attached “notice” was received by a Hardin County Resident via text messaging.
A court will never “serve” notice to you via text messaging. If you receive a text message claiming you have an outstanding warrant, a missed jury summons, or a parking violation—especially if it includes a “pay now” link—it is a scam. Official court business is conducted through the U.S. Postal Service or, in specific legal cases, by personal service from a process server or law enforcement officer.
If you receive a notice like the one shown DO NOT SCAN THE QR code and never provide financial information to ‘pay’ for the alleged violation.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office also issued a warning about the scam, and their Facebook post is below as well.
