Days Of Caring Making A Positive Impact On The Community
The United Way of Hancock County’s Spring Days of Caring volunteer service event is being held May 4 – 8.
The United Way says more than 700 volunteers are completing 78 projects at nonprofit organizations, government buildings, parks, ballfields, churches and schools.
WFIN News caught up with Kaitlin (pictured below) as she and some of her Marathon colleagues were completing some mulching and landscaping at the Findlay-Hancock Public Library.
In just five days, 712 local volunteers organized into 89 teams will have completed 78 projects throughout Hancock County.
Work includes landscaping, painting, planting, cleaning, construction and more – anything that will save these agencies staff time and money that can instead be put toward their services.
United Way of Hancock County CEO Kelley McClurkin noted that a volunteer hour is currently valued at $36.14. With this spring’s Days of Caring volunteers set to complete about 2,832 service hours, that’s a powerful savings to the organizations benefiting from this work.
“Our Days of Caring volunteers are an incredible visualization of the power of caring,” McClurkin said. “As they complete their projects next week, they’ll get a sense of community and satisfaction, and they will walk away knowing that they have contributed to something significant. We thank them for their commitment to Hancock County.”
United Way of Hancock County will host a second opportunity to participate in Days of Caring in September. A separate registration for this three-day event will open later this year.
