Library’s ‘Summer Connect’ Initiative Returns With Expanded Partnerships

This summer, families in Findlay are invited to join Summer Connect, an expanding initiative that brings free, family-friendly events directly to local neighborhoods.

Following a successful 2025 season, Summer Connect will expand in 2026 through a new partnership with Findlay City Schools. Organizers will provide events for all ages and connect families with local resources and organizations.

Findlay-Hancock County Public Library is launching Roots and Reads, a summer initiative supported by The Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation HancockREADS grant. As the nation approaches the America 250 milestone, Roots and Reads will celebrate Ohio and American history by providing books to young readers.

The program will distribute 400 age-appropriate books to children from infancy through 8th grade. Families attending Summer Connect events will receive free take-home kits with books and resources from community partners, including Blanchard Valley Health System, POET, Raising Cane’s, and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

“Summer Connect is about bringing the heart of our community into neighborhoods,” said Kristy Szkudlarek, Read for Life Coordinator. “We want to meet families where they are and make it easy for them to access important resources while enjoying games, crafts, and connection. These initiatives help get kids reading, create opportunities to connect, and strengthen our community.”

Summer Connect and Roots and Reads events will be held throughout the summer at neighborhood locations across Findlay. All events are free and open to the public.
